October 20, 2012 - 08:16 pm
A Great Falls man was pinned and killed while cutting down a tree in his backyard Saturday.
Police say the homeowner was trying to cut down an 18-inch-diameter tree by himself in the 900 block of McMillen Court in Great Falls, Virginia.
Relatives arrived about 1 p.m. and found the man pinned under the tree, says Officer Bud Walker, a Fairfax County Police spokesperson.
Fire Department crews extricated the man but he was already dead.
Police determined the death was accidental.
The man's identity has not been released. He was 56, police say.
