Loni Haggins pleads guilty to sexual relationship with student
A former Wilson High School teacher’s aide and cheerleading coach pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from her sexual abuse of a high school senior.
Loni Haggins, 30, gave birth to the 17-year-old victim’s child after the two engaged in sexual acts from August 2010 to April 2011, according to a release.
She met the teen when she worked as a supervisor for the District of Columbia Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program. The victim did not go to Wilson High School.
Haggins attended the teen’s basketball games, picked him up from school, took him out to dinner and bought him clothes and shoes as she continued to engage in sexual activity with him. She told the victim to keep their relationship a secret until after he turned 18.
Haggins became pregnant twice, the second pregnancy resulting in the birth of a child. Paternity testing proved the victim was the biological father.
Haggins was arrested September 14 and charged with attempted second-degree sexual abuse. She could spend up to a year behind bars and will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years. She’ll be sentenced in mid-December.
