Maryland electricity task force releases recommendations
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley's administration has released a report on how to improve Maryland's electricity distribution system.
A task force report released Wednesday contains 11 recommendations to help the state's electricity system hold up better against storms.
It includes a four-step plan to speed up investment to strengthen the state's distribution grid. The task force looked at the effectiveness and feasibility of putting power lines underground in selected areas.
It also examined how effective investments have been to infrastructure and utility staffing levels. The report will be sent to the Public Service Commission as it considers the utilities' response to June's derecho storm.
