Maryland missing children accounted for, mother to be charged
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County police say a woman who alleged that her car was stolen with her three children inside while she was pumping gas will be charged with making a false police report.
Police said early Monday they had recovered the black Nissan Altima that was reported stolen in Capitol Heights, and that the three children reported abducted have been accounted for. Authorities said in a statement that they now believe the woman "falsely claimed her children were in the vehicle to obtain faster police response."
The woman had alleged that her three children - ages 5, 3 and 2 - were abducted while in the vehicle early Sunday evening. Police subsequently moved to initiate an Amber Alert.
