A 22-year-old man was killed Friday night in a collision with a Metrobus in the Seat Pleasant area of Prince George’s County, a crash which police say is likely due to alcohol and drag racing.

At about 9:30 p.m., two cars, which police say were likely drag racing, sped along Central Avenue in Seat Pleasant. At the corner of Soper Lane, a Metrobus, filled with forty passengers, turned onto the street and was struck by one of the speeding cars.

The driver of the car, identified by police as 22-year-old Cleon David Wills of Bowie, Maryland, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Eight passengers on the bus were taken to local area hospitals, all with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second speeding car veered off and got into a separate crash at about the same time. One person in that car was also taken to the hospital with treatable injuries.

Prince George’s police believe that alcohol and high speeds due, they say, from likely drag racing caused the accident.

People in the neighborhood said they heard two loud crashes last night and came running out of their homes to see the damage.

"It’s sad really because they shouldn't be driving that fast,” Darrell Easton said today near the scene of the accident, “But at the same time you know, person driving that fast and they were racing, I don't know, they don’t have any respect for themselves. "

Easton says that specific stretch along Central Avenue by the Addison Road Metro station is especially prone to accidents and drag racing, with two large hills on either side of the road. Police, he says, are often stationed at the bottom in an attempt to thwart speeders and drag racers, but not all the time.

“I guess they need to do it a little more often after this incident,” he said. “They should.”

Prince George's County Police are interviewing witnesses as well as the driver of the second car who survived the crash. They will determine if charges need to be made.

"Everything that comes off this hill is pretty much pretty fast,” Terence Bolden who works at an auto repair shop across from the scene of the accident said today. “Now we usually have the police on the corner and we be catching them. But a lot of times they fly off this hill, it's very ridiculous."
