A man was struck and killed by a Virginia Railway Express train headed toward Bristow Wednesday afternoon, Fairfax County Police say.
VRE officials say that a man on the tracks between the Burke Centre and Manassas Park stations was struck by Train 325. The collision happened near the intersection of the Fairfax County Parkway and Fairfax Station Road.
According to VRE's official Twitter feed, buses were sent to retrieve the 160 passengers on the stranded train.
Trains 327, 331 and 333 were canceled while evening trains, including Trains 329, 335 and 337 took passengers to Burke, where buses met them to complete their commute.
The police investigation into the deadly incident shut down the busy transit corridor for three hours.
