Rick Curl, swim coach, arrested on charge of child abuse
A swim coach who was banned from coaching for having an alleged improper relationship with a teenage swimmer in the 1980s, has been arrested by Montgomery County police on a charge of child abuse.
Rick Curl, 63, of Vienna, turned himself into Montgomery County police on Thursday morning.
Police in August interviewed the alleged victim, who is now 43-years-old. Curl was her swim coach from the time she was nine to 18. She told authorities that Curl began touching her inappropriately when she was 13 and they had a sexual relationship when she was 15 to 18.
The woman says the abuse occurred at his former homes and at the swimming facilities at the Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda.
A phone message left by the Associated Press for Curl at his Vienna, Va., was not immediately returned Thursday.
Curl ran one of the nation's largest swim clubs near D.C. and coached 1996 and 2000 Olympic gold medalist Tom Dolan.
