Salisbury Zoo adds Australian exhibit
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - The Salisbury Zoo is preparing to welcome an Australian exhibit that will include wallabies and emus.
The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that construction on the exhibit is expected to begin soon.
The first phase of the project could open in November with a pair of Bennett wallabies, which are being acquired from a zoo in New York.
The exhibit will later include the emus, as well as Australian birds such as the Cape Barren goose and kookaburras.
The city began soliciting bids for the $200,000 project after the city Council formally approved the work on Monday.
Although the zoo once displayed a brush-tailed rock wallaby, it has for decades focused on creatures from North, Central and South America.
