Christina Morris-Ward, Seneca High School student struck, killed
A Montgomery County family is coping with the tragic loss of their loved one after the 15-year-old was struck by a vehicle on her way to school.
Christina Morris-Ward was walking to school when she was struck by a vehicle on Germantown Road (MD-118) and Wisteria Drive, Montgomery County Police confirmed on Wednesday. She later died from her injuries.
The driver, who was driving a Ford Fusion, remained on the scene, police said. He has been identified as Kevin Bradley Carlson, 27, of Germantown.
Ward's family is now struggling to grasp how something so routine, like a walk to school, could end in tragedy.
Ward's mother, Gwendolyn Ward, said, "I miss my baby. It's so hard."
"Sometimes she walked, sometimes my mom took her. I don't know. It's real iffy right now. It's real emotional," added Christina's sister, Noel Heard.
Christina's friend Marlon Holmes was just a few feet away when he heard the impact.
"I thought it was a car accident," he recalled. "We just all just sat there like we didn't believe it."
While friends at Seneca Valley struggle with the loss of their classmate, Christina's mother finds it hard to contemplate life without the fun child with a unique fashion sense who dreamed of becoming a pediatrician.
"I'm just going to miss her goofiness and happiness," Gwendolyn said. "We really gonna miss her. It's not going to be the same in the house."
She added she wishes this had been one of the occasional mornings when her daughter asked for a ride to school.
"I just wish I would have took her this morning. She would still be here," she lamented.
