Series of groping incidents reported in Springfield
Police in Fairfax County are issuing an alert to women in the area following their investigation into a reported groper. Police say the suspect has struck more than originally thought.
The latest incident happened on Cumberland Drive near Dinwiddie Street in Springfield. The victim told police she was walking along Cumberland Drive when a man came up from behind, grabbed her and groped her before fleeing.
"I do feel scared, I don't like walking here by myself, but i gotta do it for work," said Leslie Pereso, who catches the bus where the most recent incident took place.
In the last month, six women, ranging in age from 15 to 45, have reported being felt up and fondled while walking along dark roads around Springfield. The victims gave police a similar suspect description in each case. Investigators have developed a composite sketch based on their accounts.
Fairfax County police are canvassing the community, urging women who travel in the area to remember the face in the sketch and to run if they see him. Police are also issuing a reminder to remain vigilant.
Anyone with information pertaining to any of the cases is asked to call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
