Six shot in under a week near New York Avenue in D.C.
A sudden spike in violent crimes has residents of one D.C. neighborhood requesting increased police patrols.
In the past week, six people have been shot in the area of New York Avenue and North Capitol Street, including a 14-year-old boy.
"The first incident I heard nine gunshots, and the second incident I heard five gunshots," recalled Julianne Robertson-King, who lives just around the corner from where the crimes occurred. "I have a 16-year-old daughter who I cherish very, very much. I am extremely concerned," she added
On Saturday, Sept. 29, a 52-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were struck by bullets in front of the B&V Market around 10:15 p.m. Police say the woman was hit in the arm while the man suffered a gunshot wound to his feet. Investigators don't know whether they were the intended targets of the gunfire or merely innocent bystanders.
Nearly a week later, the area in front of the same store became a crime scene again. Witnesses say the gunmen walked past the store and shot a 25-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, who was shot in the chest. Police say the teen, who was in serious condition, is improving.
D.C. Police Commander Andy Solberg said, "This is the kind of thing we don't want to have out on the streets. We are not sure why it is...anybody with any kind of information on this...needs to get in touch with us."
Solberg says nothing investigators have found has tied the two shooting together; they're seemingly very bad coincidences.
