Despite the serious tone of the fundraising mission for research--some ladies poked a little fun at breast cancer with a costume that looked like it was inspired by Dolly Parton.

"So I went to Walmart, got a tacky, tacky outfit, dressed up as super boob and surprised them,” says Maryellen Shaw.

Shaw from Manassas is here to support her close friend Shirley Beers who is a breast cancer survivor- not once but three times.

Beers was diagnosed in 1991 and had a partial mastectomy seven years ago. Beers' daughter also dressed up to cheer along the crowd of women and 'men' who are also survivors of breast cancer.

"You value each day and appreciate friends and family,” says Beers.

The national spokesperson for the walk is a physician and also a survivor.

"Now after being affected by the disease, I knew I wanted to get involved in the Komen 3-day and it changed my life,” says Sheri Phillips.
