“If even I go there and remember the husband that I had two months ago, it’s so painful because the man in the hospital is not the same man I married,” says Abby Maslin.

TC Maslin was brutally attacked in Eastern Market in August.

The man Maslin married three years ago, TC, was attacked and robbed of his cellphone and credit card on August 17th in front of Eastern Market. He suffered such a severe brain injury it’s not known when or if he'll ever speak clearly again.

“He has something called aphasia, which means the language centers to his brain were severely injured. “

She says his words are jumbled except when he talks about their soon-to-be two-year-old son, Jack.

“He can talk about Jack with perfect clarity, but he can’t tell you my name.”

She says her husband calls her Mom, this from a senior energy analyst described as brilliant by those who know him.

“These guys took everything. They took everything we have worked for.”

Police arrested the three men they say were responsible for the violent robbery.

“Tomorrow will be the first experience I get to face the men who did this to him,” she says.

Maslin says she’s not looking forward to Friday’s preliminary hearing, but she’s ready.

“I want them to know who I am and I want them to see the effects of what they’ve done.”

TC now weighs around 140 pounds, is on a feeding tube, and can’t walk on his own yet. He is facing a fourth brain surgery. Maslin doesn’t know if they’ll stay in D.C., if they’ll keep their jobs or what the future holds.

“This is a very different life. It’s a 24/7 job and I miss my husband.”
