Thanksgiving flight costs rising, Travelocity finds
If you’re planning to travel for Thanksgiving, hopefully you’ve already booked your airline tickets.
According to travel site Travelocity, average round trip domestic flights between Nov. 17 and 27 will cost around $386—a nine percent increase from the same period in 2011.
The fluctuating price of fuel along with fewer available seats is pushing up ticket prices. Airlines also tack on surcharges for peak travel times around the holidays that can range from $20 to $40 one way, says Courtney Scott, senior editor at Travelocity, according to USA Today.
"The demand is so high for these flights ... you probably shouldn't be waiting until the last minute,'' says Scott, according to USA Today.
