Democrat Tim Kaine is widening his lead over Republican George Allen in the race for Virginia’s Senate seat, a new poll shows.
The Washington Examiner reports 49 percent of likely voters would support Kaine while 44 percent would support Allen, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.
The poll shows Kaine’s momentum is coming from the Democratic base, particularly white voters, the Examiner reports.
Kaine’s lead is reportedly outpacing Obama’s 2 percentage-point edge against Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
