Tractor trailers jackknife on I-495 in Bethesda
One of the trucks involved in the two-truck jackknife accident Friday morning has been removed from the site--the second is being towed away.
One left lane of the Inner Loop of I-495 in Bethesda has reopened following the accidents involving two tractor trailers that jackknifed along the highway, causing an oil spill and disrupting Friday morning rush hour traffic.
Three lanes have been reopened at 495 and Old Georgetown Road and traffic is no longer being diverted off the beltway.
Maryland State Police say the Inner Loop is closed just before Rockville Pike. They say a tractor trailer jackknifed there around 12:40 a.m. and, while crews were trying to get that trailer upright, another truck jackknifed around 4:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but police say the accident caused an oil spill.
Police say diesel fuel will be drained from each truck before they can be removed from the roadway. That process is expected to take several hours, police say.
