UMd. students robbed at gunpoint in College Park; suspects at-large
Authorities are searching for the gunmen who robbed two male students near the University of Maryland campus in College Park.
The students told university police officers that they were running along Calvert Road Monday night when they were approached by a gunman who demanded property.
One of the students complied.
The gunman was joined by a second suspect and they both ran off. The victims ran to a nearby emergency call box and contacted police.
The University Of Maryland campus alert system issued a lookout for two black males, one of them wearing a black hoodie with the numbers “33” in white, and armed with a handgun.
The students were not injured.
The robbery has students in the community of homes and apartments feeling vulnerable.
Just last week, police arrested a 17-year-old suspect and charged him with a string of armed robberies against students in the same area. That suspect remains in custody.
Student Jack Sartory said, "Someone got armed robbed with a shotgun two weeks ago, and then last night on the same street, same exact corner."
