Black Thursday? Retailers offer big sales on Thanksgiving Day
With only 46 days until Christmas, some people are already thinking about the holiday deals they'll be able to get on Black Friday.
But more and more businesses are saying forget waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to open. They're now offering big deals on Turkey Day.
It's the new Black Thursday.
Black Friday has been known for early morning campouts in front of stores and stampedes to get into the front door.
This year, retailers are starting even earlier than last year.
Based on customer feedback, stores like Walmart, Sears and K-Mart will begin Black Friday sales on Thursday - as early as 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night.
The National Retail Federation expects holiday shopping will jump more than four percent this year.
So, the early bird deals will be extra competitive this year.
Ror the first time, one local city is giving traditional Black Friday sales some competition.
Old Town Alexandria launched a town wide sale - with free parking, free trolley rides and deep discounts to attract shoppers.
But stores still deal with shoppers more willing to stay at home for the Cyber Monday deals shopping online.
