'Skyfall,' James Bond hit U.S. theaters with big payday expected
Today’s spy mission into the pop-culture world finds 007, Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,’’ Lindsay Lohan’s change of heart, Jenny McCarthy and a tree, other things, and the mystery music video.
MARTINI TIME: One would think, anyway, per Entertainment Weekly, “It’s safe to say that Quantum of Solace wasn’t the most well-liked James Bond film. Of course, that didn’t stop it from earning $594 million worldwide, but given the tepid audience response, it seems logical that many casual Bond fans would feel uneasy about shelling out $12 for a ticket to the latest Daniel Craig vehicle. Fortunately for Sony, the world’s favorite British secret agent has always proved remarkably resilient at the box office, and if international grosses are any indication, it looks like Skyfall won’t suffer at all from Quantum‘s less-than-stellar reception. In fact, the 23rd Bond entry will almost certainly be the biggest one yet.” http://bit.ly/Q0sdoF
MEANWHILE: Of another movie, per the Los Angeles Times, “Hollywood's most successful director turns on a dime and delivers his most restrained, interior film. A celebrated playwright shines an illuminating light on no more than a sliver of a great man's life. A brilliant actor surpasses even himself and makes us see a celebrated figure in ways we hadn't anticipated. This is the power and the surprise of "Lincoln."
“Directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Tony Kushner and starring Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th president of the United States, "Lincoln" unfolds during the final four months of the chief executive's life as he focuses his energies on a dramatic struggle that has not previously loomed large in political mythology: his determination to get the House of Representatives to pass the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery.” http://lat.ms/UyAP1J
THE TONGUE: Still licking after all these years, per the New York Times, “FIFTY years. “You can’t get away from that number,” Keith Richards said with a chuckle by telephone from Paris, where the Rolling Stones have been rehearsing for arena concerts and have played guerrilla club and theater shows. The Stones, led by Mick Jagger and Mr. Richards (although the other members have changed), played their first gig in 1962. And with less than two months remaining in this anniversary year, the machinery of commemoration and promotion has swung into motion.” http://nyti.ms/TPylzh
UM, ON SECOND THOUGHT: No, per Deadline, “Lindsay Lohan’s new PR representatives Rogers & Cowan confirmed (Thursday night) that the actress will not be appearing on ABC’s 20/20. Lohan was scheduled to be on the show November 16 for an interview with Walters. A source tells Deadline that Lohan’s new flackery was dissatisfied with the direction ABC wanted to take the interview. The 20/20 stint was to promote Lohan’s upcoming Lifetime movie Liz & Dick in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor and her stormy romance to two-time husband and co-star Richard Burton, played by Grant Bowler.” http://bit.ly/VWBR8G
IMMEDIATE SUPPORT: Just the facts, per Access Hollywood, “Members of the “Dancing with the Stars” family Tweeted their well-wishes for the show’s co-host, Brooke Burke-Charvet, who revealed on Thursday she has thyroid cancer. Helio Castroneves, who was recently eliminated from the “All-Stars” season, said he is confident she will overcome the disease.” http://bit.ly/UqCEDv
BOY-BAND ALUM: Seems like a long time ago, per Celebuzz, “Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures announced Thursday that Mark Wahlberg will star in Transformers 4, due in 2014. “Mark is awesome,” Bay said in a statement released on his website. “An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.” This will mark the second time Wahlberg, 41, will work with Bay, 47, on the big screen.” http://bit.ly/PJgAkR
JOIN THE CLUB: But she’s considerably more revealing, per The Independent, “Sienna Miller has followed in the footsteps of Kate Moss and Demi Moore by posing naked for an artist while heavily pregnant. The actress, 30, who gave birth to her daughter Marlowe in July, sat for British artist Jonathan Yeo, 41.” http://ind.pn/PASs3E
KRISTEN STEWART: Of dropping hints, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Although The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Kristen Stewart had been dropped from a sequel to Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman back in August, the actress now hints that there might be more to come. . . Stewart teased that she might have heard more about a potential sequel to her summer hit. “No one’s positive or anything, but I think there’s a strong possibility,” she said about the potential project.” http://bit.ly/Twf951
ALRIGHTY THEN: Hey, stuff happens, per FOX, “Playboy babe Jenny McCarthy has revealed she was once so high on drugs she tried to have sex with a tree. The model and actress, 40, writes in her book “Bad Habits: Confessions of a Recovering Catholic,” she had stripped naked with female friends after taking ecstasy on a beach. The spaced-out actress then began to feel unsteady on her feet — and turned to Mother Nature for some support, getting very comfortable with a nearby tree.” http://fxn.ws/UqOCNk
MORE FANGS?: We’ll see, per The Wrap, “‘Twilight’ star Ashley Greene is being eyed for The Weinstein Company’s much-awaited horror feature “Kristy,” now being referred to as “Satanic,” TheWrap has learned.” http://bit.ly/VJD0Ff
FOR THOSE OF A CERTAIN AGE: Just the facts, per the AP, “When the latest installment in the wildly popular "Call of Duty" video game franchise is released Tuesday, it will transport fans to a completely new place: the future. But setting half of "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" in the year 2025 could be the riskiest gambit yet for the successful shoot-'em-up series known for its relentless past-and-present realism.” http://apne.ws/Zdj3FQ
