Bob McDonnell popular among women, poll shows
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new poll shows Gov. Bob McDonnell isn't burdened by the same gender gap that hurt the Republican ticket among women voters in last week's election.
Quinnipiac University's new survey of 1,469 registered Virginia voters showed women respondents approved of McDonnell 48 percent to 26 percent while 59 percent of men approved and 27 percent did not.
Overall, McDonnell's job-approval rating was 53 percent. The survey, done Nov. 8-12, found McDonnell faring well among young voters 18 years old to 34. Forty-eight percent approved, and 28 percent disapproved.
The poll also shows Virginians split over uranium mining: 42 percent support it, 40 percent do not. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
