CMA Awards: Stars set to take the stage
It’s a big night for country music fans across the nation. The 46th annual Country Music Association awards will be handed out and as always it’s a star-stuffed event.
It’s Music City’s most memorable night. The CMA’s are Nashville’s night to shine and with so many stars set to take the stage there’s no wondering why.
Dress rehearsals have dominated the last 48 hours.
“Getting in here and rehearsing through it and pick little things and meticulously pick little things that can make the performance come across A, better on TV and B, here in the arena,” says Luke Bryan.
The audience at Bridgestone Arena is a who’s who of country music megastars like Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban. Taylor Swift is riding high off the instant success of her new album and she is the only female up for Entertainer of the Year.
“The feeling of going into this year’s CMA’s is such an amazing feeling of celebration, joy and appreciation,” says Swift.
Leading the pack of nominees is Eric Church, who is up for five awards. It’s also the fifth year in a row the show is hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, who’s promising not to get too goofy thanks to Carrie.
“She’s kind of become this protector up there of mine,” says Paisley. “I sort of go off a little bit and am a little goofy and make some dumb decisions for the sake of being funny.”
It’s also a big night for those behind the music. Nashville native and songwriter Will Hoge, who originally recorded “Even If It Breaks Your Heart" on his album "The Wreckage," is hoping to take home the trophy for Song of the Year, snagging his first CMA award. The song was later recorded by The Eli Young Band.
“Other than more songs of the year, I don’t know what you can get that’s better,” he says.
Watch the CMA's live at 8 p.m. Thursday on ABC7.
