D.C. speed camera fines lowered for some tickets
November 5, 2012 - 12:46 pm
New fines take effect for D.C.'s speed cameras that lower the cost for most of the low-level speeding tickets but increases the fine for the fastest drivers.
Under the new system in effect Monday, anyone going 10 miles over will pay $50 instead of $75.
Anyone caught going 11 to 15 miles over the speed limit will pay $100 instead of $125.
Making the announcement Friday, Mayor Vincent Gray also said he would use some of the millions collected from the fines to hire 100 new police officers.
