Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton wants D.C. included in Armed Forces's flag raise practice
November 12, 2012 - 05:47 am
A ceremony will be held Monday morning at the DC war memorial on the National Mall to honor veterans and to urge the inclusion of the District in the military's raising of the flags tradition.
D.C. delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is pushing for a measure that would require the Armed Forces to display the D.C. flag whenever the flags of the 50 states are displayed.
She’s upset that the Navy did not raise the city’s flag when District resident Jonathan Rucker graduated from the nation’s only naval boot camp.
Rucker’s parents will speak at Monday’s ceremony.
