Elizabeth Warren wins Massachusetts Senate seat
BOSTON (AP) - Promising to fight to put families back to work, Democrat Elizabeth Warren has thanked supporters for her victory over incumbent Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown.
Warren is a Harvard law professor and former Obama administration adviser who helped set up a consumer watchdog agency after the Wall Street meltdown.
In her victory speech, Warren said she intends to fight for a level playing field and to "hold the big guys accountable."
Warren's comments came shortly after Brown conceded the race, with the Republican telling supporters his campaign had "stood strong in the fight."
The contest between Warren and Brown had been one of the most closely watched Senate races as well as the most expensive, with the candidates spending a combined $68 million.
With her victory, Warren becomes the first woman elected to the Senate from Massachusetts.
