Nearly 5,000 people attended the 13th annual Feast of Sharing Wednesday at the Washington Convention Center.

The homeless waited patiently in line to go in. The senior citizens waited at their tables and serving everybody were the rows of volunteers dishing up the turkey, dressing and all the fixings.

“I have my daughter here with me,” says Rick Stein, who works at Safeway. “I have my nephew serving tables.”

There were several families, dads and sons, waiting to serve. Moms and daughters were waiting to eat.

“I came last year and this year and it’s wonderful, wonderful, says Martha Washington, a guest at the feast.

ABC7’s Pamela Brown, who serves every year, was back this year. Mayor Gray came to sing the praises.

“Safeway is such a great corporate citizen,” says Gray.

They players in tomorrow’s city championship Turkey Bowl, Anacostia and Dunbar, came to serve and answer questions.

The annual feast brings together those who need and appreciate the food and the company.

“I love it I come every year,” says one man.

“I have no relatives,” says Mary Lou Collector. “Nobody knows or cares if I’m living or dead and this is just so lovely.”

A 93-year-old World War II vet was also there. Cheerleaders came from Ballou High and after the meal line dancers young and old danced.
