The George Washington Parkway remain closed in both directions near Mount Vernon after a fatal single-car accident that happened early Monday Morning, officials say.

Richard Allen Taylor, 25, died at the scene after the crash, which happened in the southbound lanes near Stratford Lane at about 5:15 a.m.

His passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound traffic on the Parkway was diverted onto Route 1.
