Jim Moran's son claims stupidity on video flap
WASHINGTON (AP) - The son of Virginia Democratic congressman Jim Moran says it was pure "stupidity" that he discussed a plan to cast fraudulent ballots in the upcoming election.
The episode was caught on tape by an undercover operative working for an organization led by a conservative activist. In an interview with Fox News 5 on Monday, Patrick Moran said he didn't grasp exactly what the man was proposing and is angry at himself for not notifying the police.
The young Moran said of the operative, quote, "I was listening to him, but I was not appreciating the magnitude of what he was saying."
Sitting beside his son for the interview, Jim Moran called the incident "mean-spirited gotcha politics." He said he remains proud of his son, who resigned as campaign field director.
