Two men stole thousands of dollars’ worth of Rolex watches from an Alexandria jewelry store, police say.

The suspects allegedly walked into King's Jewelry around 10 a.m. in early September, pulled out hammers from underneath their jackets and started smashing two display cases.

An employee heard the commotion and chased the subjects out of the store. No one was injured.

Police are calling the unsophisticated robbery rare. In less than 30 seconds, the two suspects were able to grab more than $37,000 in Rolex watches.

“Oh my goodness, how brazen!..In the middle of the day, they just walked in and did that,” exclaimed Andrea Hope of Alexandria.

Investigators are also describing the crime as brazen. They are hoping surveillance footage of the suspects, believed to be in their late teens, will help put them behind bars.

“We don't see a crime like this very often, where people walk in at 10 in the morning, just smash a counter and then take the money and run out the store. It’s usually a lot more inconspicuous,” added Alexandria Police Department Sergeant Mike Kochis. “Yeah, this is rare,”

The store owners and employees closing up shop Tuesday night refused to talk on camera but did say this is the second time they’ve been targeted by thieves. Police were able to make an arrest in the first case.

Both suspects in this most recent crime are described as black men in their late teens with medium builds. One was wearing a blue Helly Hansen jacket. The other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with an astronaut on the front.
