WASHINGTON (AP) - A man shot and wounded by a police officer in Washington after the man allegedly pointed handgun at the officer has been charged with felony assault on a police officer.
Police say the shooting happened Wednesday near Georgia Avenue and Kenyon Street NW when the man ran from police then pointed a gun at an officer who pursued him. The man's gun was later found to be unloaded.
The man, identified as 27-year-old Mark A. Vanderhall of Suitland, Md., was ordered held Thursday by a D.C. Superior Court judge.
He remains hospitalized and in intensive care as a result of the shooting. A message left early Friday for Vanderhall's attorney was not immediately returned.
