James Gregory arrested after striking MSP trooper
James Gregory, 23, is under arrest after he stuck a Maryland State Police trooper while leading police on a chase through Prince George's and Montgomery counties Friday.
Around noon, police were alerted of a stolen 2007 Honda Accord. It was seen traveling in the area of southbound Interstate 495 in Prince George’s County. A trooper followed the vehicle into the Greenbelt Metro Station where Gregory parked. When the trooper approached the car, Gregory took off.
Police say Gregory then got onto northbound I-495, weaving through traffic. Trooper First Class Manuel Moreno tried to stop Gregory by placing tire deflating devices in the road. Gregory swerved to avoid the stop sticks, intentionally striking Trooper Moreno.
Gregory continued to drive into the Ikea parking lot and eventually back onto I-495 towards Montgomery County. He abandoned the car in the 10800 block of Blossom Lane in Silver Spring.
Police arrested Gregory in the area of Gatewood Ave. and Burnt Mills Ave.
Trooper Moreno was treated and released from the hospital.
Gregory complained of injury and was taken to the hospital. He faces a string of charges when he's released.
