Maurice Michaely charged months after church arson
An arrest has been made months after a fire gutted a 135-year-old Haymarket church.
Police say Maurice Michaely of Haymarket was charged Thursday for allegedly setting the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on fire in mid-August.
Flames shot out of the church around 4:30 a.m. August 10. Firefighters were only able to salvage two bibles.
The church was preparing to hand out backpacks filled with school supplies to 100 needy kids in Prince William County. Those backpacks were also lost in the fire.
Michaely is being held without bond and will be in court in late January.
