Michael Jerome Dennis gets prison time for making false bomb threats against Amtrak
WASHINGTON (AP) - A Washington man has been sentenced to more than a year and a half in prison for making two false bomb threats against Amtrak.
Michael Jerome Dennis pleaded guilty in August and was sentenced Wednesday to 20 months in prison.
He has also been ordered to perform 200 hours of community service, undergo counseling and pay Amtrak approximately $5,000. Dennis was arrested in May.
He acknowledged that on Nov. 30, 2011, and Jan. 19, 2012, he called Amtrak and said he had placed a bomb at the New York Avenue Bridge just north of Union Station.
As a result of the threats, a number of Amtrak trains were delayed. A telephone call Wednesday to Dennis' attorney was not immediately returned.
