WEST AUGUSTA, Va. (AP) - Authorities have called off the search for a Staunton man who went missing a week ago while hiking on Shenandoah Mountain.
Sixty-year-old Robert Fitzgerald dropped his cell phone while hiking on the Confederate Breastworks Trail with a friend on Nov. 11.
Authorities believe he returned the next day to find the phone. He hasn't been seen since then.
A five-day search that began Thursday yielded no signs of Fitzgerald. Billy Chrimes with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management tells The News-Leader that authorities decided Monday night to call off the search.
