Vehicle splits in half in fatal Harford County crash
Three people were killed and two were injured in a Harford County crash Saturday night. Maryland State Police say the vehicle involved was mangled and in multiple pieces.
Police say all of the occupants were in their late teens to early 20s.
Just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a call came in about a vehicle accident in the area of Prospect Road and Mill Green Road. The vehicle was in two pieces; one half was located 100 feet from the other, investigators add.
Police believe the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Prospect Road when the driver lost control, leaving the roadway. The car became airborne and struck a tree. Authorities say the force of the impact caused the vehicle to "break in half."
Tyler G. Anderson, 21, Shawn R. Ponton, 21, and Alexzandria O. McDowell, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene. Theresa M. Owensby, 19, and David E. Clark, 21, were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Police believe the occupants were all friends.
At this time, there's no indication alcohol contributed to the crash. Police were also unable to determine whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
