A coalition of union organizers, Walmart workers and community sympathizers marched on the Capital Plaza Walmart store, where they were promptly turned back by Walmart management.

The protesters are part of a group calling for a "Black Friday" strike. Walmart workers around the country would walk out during one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The group says workers want better wages, benefits and working conditions.

"I'm just tired of it,” says Michael Wilkins, a Walmart worker. “I don't have a regular schedule. They send me home. And I have bills to pay and a family to feed."

It's unclear just how many workers might participate. But the nation's largest retailer says it plans to carry on business as usual, that it respects the right of workers to express their views, but "we expect them to show up and do their job. If they don't, depending on the circumstances, there could be consequences, we will take every situation on a case by case basis."

All of which could leave shoppers caught in the middle.

"Even though they have low prices, it's going to be hard to come here,” says shopper Patty Sciors.

Walmart has asked the National Labor Relations Board to force union organizers to stop this action saying it could lead to massive disruptions. So far, there’s no response from the NLRB.
