Young father fights for life after being hit by street racer
A Maryland family is going through heartbreak and frustration as they say a young father will likely lose his life because of a street race.
And as loved ones pray for a miracle, the driver who put him in the hospital remains on the loose.
On October 20, Marlon Orellana, 22, was struck about 3 p.m. while crossing the street near the intersection of Riggs Road and University Boulevard.
Witnesses tell police two cars sitting at the light at the intersection revved their engines and then took off going east on University. One struck and critically injured Orellana as he tried to cross the street. The cars just kept going.
Friends tell ABC7 the pedestrian hit is in a coma and has a four-year-old son. He was working to send money home to his family in Honduras.
Police say they don't have much to go on, but they are looking for a gold-colored sedan, most likely a Honda.
ABC7's Roz Plater has the story.
