Andy Pollin, Steve Czaban suspended for Gabrielle Ludwig remarks
Andy Pollin and Steve Czaban, the hosts of an afternoon-drive talk show on ESPN 980, have been suspended by the station after making inappropriate remarks about a transgender basketball player, the station announced Tuesday.
Pollin and Czaban, who host The Sports Reporters each weekday evening, came under fire late last week after making what the station called "extremely insensitive" comments about Gabrielle Ludwig, a 50-year-old transgender who plays basketball for Mission College in Santa Clara, Calif.
According to USA Today and OutSports, Czaban alluded to the idea that Ludwig shouldn't play sports or "say (she) has the rights of everyone else."
In a statement on the station's Facebook page, the station said that they "strongly believe two of our employees crossed the line when discussing a transsexual person on their program last Thursday" and that "such intolerance and insensitivity will never be tolerated by this company."
There was no word as to when Pollin and Czaban would return to the air. The duo offered an apology on Monday.
