Arne Duncan asks for reasonable gun limits
(AP, ABC7) - Education Secretary Arne Duncan says the country needs to reevaluate its values and consider common-sense gun control measures after a mass shooting at a Connecticut school.
Duncan was speaking at a Washington elementary school one week after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
He says "reasonable people should be able to agree on these restrictions," including limiting civilian access to military-style assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
He says the country also needs to focus on making access to mental health care easier while "limiting easy access to guns." Duncan's comments reflect President Barack Obama's stance on gun control since last week's shooting deaths of 20 young children and six adults.
