FAA clears Santa Claus for annual Christmas flight
St. Nick – you are cleared for takeoff!
The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Thursday that Santa Claus’ reindeer-powered sleigh, Santa One, is now cleared for its annual Christmas flight around the globe.
“As a grandfather of nine, I know how excited children are when they wake up on Christmas morning and see presents underneath the tree,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Little boys and girls can expect to hear the pitter-patter of little reindeer feet on Christmas Eve, and Santa and his reindeer will be cruising the night at an altitude of 50,000 feet to deliver gifts.
And since it’s 2012, Santa will be getting a little boost from technology. A special team of elves working for Santa has outfitted his sleigh with special equipment to help Santa navigate congested air space near big cities (The FAA is helping a little bit too).
