Fort Washington shooting follows home invasion
A man was shot with his family in the home in Fort Washington Tuesday morning as part of a home invasion, police say.
Police say, however, that the victims were targeted.
The shooting was reported at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, when multiple armed suspects made their way into a home in the 9100 block of Loughlan Road with a husband, wife and their 16-year-old daughter.
The husband, who is in his 40s, confronted the armed men and was shot in the back. He is expected to survive. The wife and daughter were not harmed.
"My brother in law was shot in the back,” says a relative, Debra Etheridge. “(We’re) waiting to go in to see how they are doing."
The suspects fled with cash and jewelry.
Relatives tell ABC7 that the family has an alarm system and have lived here for about 12 years.
Neighbors recall hearing two very loud bangs. Police checked for finger prints through out the home and canvassed the neighborhood with dogs and high powered rifles, searching for the suspects and the weapon.
