Free shipping Monday: 1,600 retailers offer free shipping
The lunch break wasn't long enough for Marie Smith - thanks to the holiday rush of last minute shippers at the Merrifield post office.
"Looks like it's turning into an extended lunch break - thanks to the traffic and lines but it's worth it," Smith says.
She says it’s worth it because Smith and most others want their gifts to make it to their friends and families by Christmas day.
At least 658 million pieces of mail will be processed Monday - the busiest mailing day of the year.
The long lines are expected to continue all week, with Friday being the last day to ship using ups next-day air -- in order for gifts to arrive by Christmas eve.
There is a way to avoid the long lines at the post office -- by taking advantage of free shipping day.
All day Monday, more than 1,600 retailers are offering free shipping.
