Garnold King, Prince George's Co. teacher, accused of sexually abusing student
A Prince George's County teacher is facing sex abuse and offense charges following allegations he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl over a nine month period.
Police arrested 48-year-old Garnold Maurice King on Dec. 6. He is charged with six counts of sex abuse against a minor.
"So far we know there is one victim who came forward who told her mother," said Prince George's County Police Cpl. Maria McKinney.
According to court documents, the accusations include kissing, fondling and other sex acts.
McKinney added, "The investigation is still ongoing. Like I said earlier, we're just trying to see if there are any other people involved or have had an encounter with this person."
The alleged abuse occurred last school year while King was the victim's teacher at Isaac Gourdine Middle School, court documents state.
In a statement, the school system said, "Our number one priority is the protection and safety of our students, and we are deeply saddened to learn about this incident."
Neighbors say King is married with two young boys. They say the allegations are hard to believe.
Dana Mitchell, one of King's neighbors, said, "He's a really nice guy...it just doesn't match."
Efforts to reach King were not successful.
According to the school system, King has been placed on administrative leave. Counseling is also being provided at both schools where he was employed.
Police say a hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2 at 8:45 a.m. in Upper Marlboro, Md.
