Joe Allbritton 1924 - 2012: Funeral service held in Houston
A funeral was held Monday for Joe Allbritton, the founder of Allbritton Communications, the parent company of ABC7, NewsChannel 8 and POLITICO.
The service, which was held in Houston, was attended by prominent Texans such as Secretary of State James Baker and former first daughter Luci Baines Johnson.
The former Dean of the National Cathedral Nathan Baxter delivered the homily. A service for Mr. Allbritton in D.C. is scheduled for January.
Mr. Allbritton passed away on Dec. 12th at the age of 87.
He and his wife Barbara were major contributors to scores of philanthropic, educational and artistic institutions, including Washington's Kennedy Center and Arena Stage.
He gave to hundreds of charitable causes through the Allbritton Foundation, including Baylor Medical School, the Allbritton Art Institute, the Oxford Scholars, and the establishment of the International School of Law, which has become the George Mason Law School in Virginia.
