A 15-year-old Meade High School freshman was hit and killed by a car in Laurel early Thursday morning, police say.

Jaelin D. Ashe of Laurel became the third student from Meade High School killed in a pedestrian accident this school year.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m., more than an hour before sunrise, near the intersection of Route 198/Laurel-Fort Meade Road and Russett Green East, close to a major shopping complex, Anne Arundel County Police say.

Police say Ashe was crossing the intersection inside a crosswalk but was going against a signal telling pedestrians to stop when he was struck.

Jaelin's friends tell ABC7 they believe he was coming from his girlfriend's bus stop after seeing her off to school first.

The striking car, a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 32-year-old Abraham Evans of Laurel, had the green light and the right of way, police say.

Ashe was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kelly Kimbrow, who walks across the intersection every day to catch her bus to work, says it's hard to cross all these lanes of traffic, especially when its dark out.

"You have to be really, really careful when you cross these busy streets especially early in the morning and at night," Kimbrow says. "That's why I wait until all the cars are gone and then I cross the streets."

Authorities say that Ashe was nearly hit by another car shortly before being struck and killed.

Police say that the driver of the car was not speeding or impaired at the time of the crash and will face no charges
