Letters were sent home with students today after Laurel City police say a high school student has been hospitalized for an emergency commitment after classmates felt threatened by his behavior.

Officers say the student alleged he would do harm to others. The student is now in the hospital undergoing psychiatric evaluation.

Police spokesman Pete Piringer said Tuesday that the student's classmates complained about his disruptive behavior Monday. Piringer said a teacher told a school security officer, who notified police. Piringer said police contacted the youth's parents, who said he had access to weapons.

Police also found some materials that Piringer said lent credibility to the alleged threats, including drawings and lists inside the student's locker. The student attended Laurel High School

Piringer said Police Chief Richard McLaughlin said the incident is a prime example of "see something, say something." Authorities added that it was not associated to the Connecticut school shooting that left 26 people dead.
