Major power outage hits Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Baltimore Gas and Electric has restored power to most of the nearly 70,000 homes and businesses in Anne Arundel County that lost power after a disruption to main power lines serving the area.
BGE reported Friday morning that about 1,500 customers in Anne Arundel remained without power. The utility says it has restored power to more than 66,000 customers since the outage Thursday night.
Residents spotted dramatic flashes of light in the sky when the transmission lines blew. Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen tells The Baltimore Sun that "the sky was vibrating almost between blue and green and bright white."
Police officers directed traffic at dark intersections after the outage, and Anne Arundel Medical Center ran on generators.
Here is a video of what we believe was the blast, posted on YouTube.
