Marissa Mayer criticized for 'easy' baby comment
Marissa Mayer, the new CEO of Yahoo, received lots of press for going back to work recently just two weeks after having a baby.
Then, her comments caused a firestorm online.
"The baby's been way easier than everyone made it out to be," she said.
The 37-year-old was named to the CEO of Yahoo post when she was six month pregnant. She worked throughout her pregnancy and few weeks of maternity leave.
At a California dinner celebrating female business leaders, Mayer surprised many with her description of motherhood.
"I think I've been really lucky that way but I had a very easy, healthy pregnancy. He's been easy," she said.
The comments alienated many working mothers and fathers who say they don't have the luxuries and live in help to take care of their kids.
"I don't think you can ever say that having a baby is easy,” says Liz Candelario, a mother. “That's crazy."
Some said the “easy baby” comments minimize the hard work and toll it takes to be a parent.
"It's very easy to say that when you got 14 nannies at your beck and call and a chauffeur to drive them to daycare," said Syd Boyne, a father.
Others, however, admit they would just like to know her secret.
"If she feels like her baby was easy for her, awesome,” says Angela Sterpka a D.C. resident. “I would like to know how she did it."
