MARYLAND
Maryland's state sandwich could be soft-shell crab
December 27, 2012 - 06:09 pm
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland already has an official state dessert. A state sandwich could be next.
A pre-filed bill in the Maryland General Assembly would make soft-shell crab the official Maryland sandwich.
Sen. Richard Colburn, an Eastern Shore Republican is sponsoring the measure.
It would be the latest Eastern Shore culinary victory in the Maryland State House. In 2008, lawmakers passed legislation to make the multilayered Smith Island Cake the official state dessert.
