Michelle Obama donates to Toys for Tots
WASHINGTON (AP) - Michelle Obama thanked military families for the inspiration they've given her as first lady as she delivered about 900 gifts Tuesday from White House aides to the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign.
Mrs. Obama said "military families are what inspires my work," as she thanked volunteers, donors and service members at military base Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
She said the annual toy drive- which was started by a Marine reservist and his wife- is just one example of how military families go the extra mile to serve their communities and country.
Even when they face hardships and constant deployment, she said, they are the first to step up and volunteer. She along with Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, started a campaign last year to support military families.
