December 7, 2012 - 01:44 pm
A magnitude-6.3 earthquake hit northern New Zealand Friday.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injures as a result of the earthquake, which struck at about 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
The earthquake's epicenter on New Zealand's North Island sits about 214 miles north of Wellington, the nation's capital.
A quake that struck Christchurch, New Zealand in February of 2011 also registered as a 6.3 on the Richter scale. That disaster caused widespread damage in the region and killed 185 people.
According to a TV ONE report, shaking could be felt throughout the island and was described as a "long, noisy quake."
